Angel Haze – Voice EP
We recently posted Angel Haze’s remix to Theraflu which definitely showcased her rapping ability; however, I was wondering what else she had in the bag. Voice EP is not at all what you would expect after hearing Theraflu, with some awesome indie flips and some familiar hip-hop balladesque beats Angel showcases her ability to actually rap about something, a trait too many emcees lack. She tells her story throughout the course of the album, her come-up, where she is at, and where she sees herself. The first few tracks on the album are straight piano and really give us a chance to hear her talk about some of the more personal subjects, her relationship with her mom, and not having a home. My favorite track on the EP has to be Smile, which is more of spoken word than rapping, absolutely moving as she goes in over a delicate piano.
There is no question that the girl has talent, but it will be interesting to see how she develops. I would definitely say the personal songs had my ear the most and that I did enjoy the first half of the EP more so than the second, but as she begins to find her lane I expect to hear products I can vibe with front to back over and over. She’s got the heart, the image, the swag, and the talent, and with a few more releases she will undoubtedly be a name you will be seeing on a regular basis.
Word on the street is that she has her debut album coming out in June and I am setting my standards high for that one. Voice will satisfy as an awesome introduction to Angel Haze but the album should be what tell us what she is all about.
